Librea Scott, 42, died unexpectedly on Friday, Sept. 6, while in Jamaica, said her daughter Monique Roy, 28, on a GoFundMe page.
Since her death, the family has had a difficult time getting her remains back to Connecticut, she said.
Roy flew to Jamaica on Monday, Sept. 30, and said she is doing her best to make arrangements to bring her home.
"I have been met with adversity at every step of this process it’s crazy but there is no system in place for a tourist passing away," Roy said on the fundraising page.
She said that despite contacts with the U.S. Embassy, they only offered to help guide her through the paperwork.
"The current plan is to have her cremated and bring her home but honestly it’s going to take a miracle at this point," Roy added.
Scott left behind two small children, three adults, and a loving family,
"Please help us see our mother one last time," Roy said.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal says he is working with the U.S. State Department to get the problem resolved, but there are many obstacles to overcome, according to News12.
"The reason that Jamaica is preventing that return of remains seems inexplicable and inexcusable and that's why we are going to fight for Monique and her four brothers and sisters," said Blumenthal.
To date, a little over $1,000 has been raised of the $10,000 needed.
